AUTHORITY SWIMMING AREAS
The deta~led development of the proposed Bruce's Mill swimming facility was
presented, together wlth the swimming area report approved by Executive Committee
Meeting #8/84, identifY1nq the closing of the Boyd and C1aireville swimming
facilit~es, and the problems associated with water quality and sWlmming facil1ties
in the various Conservation Areas.

The preferred Concept Plan for the Boyd Master Plan was presented The
presentation detailed the process of the pre-submission program presently being
undertaken for Min1stry of the Envlronment approval under the Environmental
Assessment Act The detailed presentation identified phaslng and costing for the
complete proJect

STAFF PROGRESS REPORT
Staff presented a verbal progress report
With some variations and fluctuations, financing is approximately on
target, and a reasonably good return has been received from revenue-
producing facilities
Planning and development - Conservation Areas
Durlng the third quarter of 1984 the main emphasis has been on
planning-related projects, princ~pally the Boyd Master Plan Study The
draft study was circulated to interested people who participated in the
public information seminars Comments were received which are being
incorporated into the Plan where possible Meetings are being held w~th
affected municipallties to soliclt their support prior to presentation of
the Plan to the M~nistry of the Environment under the Environmental
Assessment Act
C1a~reville Development Plan - received proposals from lnterested people
w~shing to develop facil~ties, and subsequently reviewed the development
plan for the area

Work continuing on preparation of design drawings and specifications for
construction projects under Canada Works Program.
The Experience program assisted with landscape improvements in conservation
areas, landscape plantings at Cold Creek, new entrance facility in the
pool area at Petticoat Creek
A construction crew was hired under Canada Works to install information
signs at Bruce's Mill and Petticoat Creek. The same crew has almost
completed a workshop and garage facility at Ind~an Line.
The washroom building, a major development item at Claireville, has been
tendered, quotations have been received, and work is ready to proceed
following review and subsequent approval of the proposals.
Conservation Areas' Operations:
.All Areas were open for the summer period The swimming area was closed at
Bruce's Mill towards the end of July, but it is expected that the 1985
season will show an improvement with the installation of the new swimming
curtain. The Boyd and Claireville areas were not opened for swimming
Camping at Albion Hills is down slightly, and Indian Line is up
significantly.
Experience students assisted at entrance gates and rental concessions
l3 day camps were held in 6 conservation areas, making a significant
contribution to attendance
There were l,26l plcnic reservations to August 31st, l06 sites are
available at any glven time, and bookings are being received for September
and October
The Rambling Hills Riding Club held monthly horse shows at Albion Hills
.An Antique and Classic Car CLub rally took place at Bruce's Mill
Three Canoeing Courses were held at Claireville on weekeds, and the big event
of the summer at the area was a rodeo which, however, did not receive
anticipated attendance The equestrian operation at Clairevil1e has proved
a success
Hunter Education Courses were held at Cold Creek over the summer, wlth two
in September and three more scheduled for November The Golden Retrlever
National Trials were held in late June, and a Husky Dog show in July, both
reasonably successful events
A successful model airplane event was held th~s summer, wlth no nOlse
problems reported
Labatt's sponsored a Fishing Derby in July at Glen Haffy
The Authority collaborated In discount programs - notably wlth Canada's
Wonderland which honoured discounts in camping for Wonderland visitors
Distrlbution was widespread, including Montreal, Windsor, and Detroit.
A s~gnificant number of visltors camped at Authority facil~ties through
this program
Staff Training the first Annual Lifeguard competition was held this
summer, with Pettlcoat Creek being the successful competitor All teams
worked very hard, and it lS hoped the competition will become an annual
event
Conservation Services
Programs dealing with resource management activlties were carried out on
Authority, public, and prlvate lands Sprlng was busy with tree planting,
and wlth fenclng on Authority lands, approximately 3,000 feet being fenced
along resource management tracts where unauthorlzed access was a problem

A major plantation management program was carried out in the Bolton
Resource Management Tract
8 students on the Junior Conservationists' Program worked in the Gibson
Lake area, developing a resource management plan.
Canada Works were involved this summer on wildlife habitat improvement and
management programs, shrub plantings, an~ nesting box development. The
program will also be used to carry out some Environmentally Significant Area
management, and a number of landscaping projects.
Land Management worked with the Waterfront Section in developing a 40-acre
park in the Ajax area.
Initial landscaping to be carried out in the berm area adjacent to Highway
50 at Claireville.
Work will be undertaken on a number of hydroseeding projects on flood and
erosion control projects Several private hydroseeding projects are in
progress
6 students on the Experience SubProgram worked on fisheries' improvement and
sediment control projects l,500 feet of fencing was installed on the
Duffin Creek, and 600 feet of log cribbing on the Humber River.
The Tree spade rental program is very active on private lands
Plantings will be undertaken on private and public lands under the
Canada Works program.
Staff was involved th~s summer in a very interesting Conservation Services
. Workshop at the end of June Among topics for discussion were private lands'
assistance programs, and better commun~cat~on and coordination of effort on
prlvate lands A report of the Workshop will be circulated to the
Association of Conservation Authorities of Ontario
