CARRIED: STAFF PROGRESS REPORTS A Keating Channel Staff reported on the status of the study by Acres, and the investigation by Mr Ivan Lorant, Inquiry Officer, into the immediate need for dredging to alleviate the flood risk in the Channel. Henderson Seconded by Mrs. F Gell THAT The Authority make appropriate representations to the Ministry of the Environment concerning possible pollution in the Don River from storm water outfalls in the Laird Industrial Area. CARRIED: Copies of a letter directed to the Chairman of the Board by Dr W M Tovell, and dated Bl 06 03, were circulated to the members The letter outlined Dr Tove1l's concern that dredging the Keating Channel is not the complete answer, which lies in knowing more about the> behaviour of the Don River as a whole J-2 -2- Res #3 Moved by Dr. T.H. THAT The letter concerning the Keating Channel dredging, dated 81-06-03 and directed to the Chairman of the Don Valley Ad7Visory Board by Dr. W M Tovell, be received and discussed CARRIED; Res. #4 Moved by Dr T H Leith Seconded by G Henderson THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT Following receipt of the report of the Inquiry Officer, appointed by the Premier of Ontnrio to investigate the flood risk in the Lower Don River and the Keating Channel, the staff be directed to prepare a news release for circulation to the news media, other agencies, and the general public concerning the Au thor ity' s pos it ion CARRIED; B Erosion and Bank Stabilization Staff reported on work completed on the following sites 'Major' Bruce Farm Drive; Presley Avenue; Rainbow Creek Parkway; 'Minor' Sunnybrook Park (2 sites); Glendon College; 24 Valleyanna Drive; Northtown Sewage Treatment Plant; Bayview;Steeles C. Leith THAT the Staff Progress Reports be received CARRIED; The Chairman of the Board requested that staff place a report on flooding of the Bayview Avenue Extension on the agenda for the next meeting of the Don Valley Advisory Board WATERSHED PLAN IMPLEMENTATION - UPDATE Staff summarized progress on implementation of the Watershed Plan, and advised that the Plan has been accepted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and will be used as a reference for reviewing the Authority's proposed programmes and budget Res #6 Moved by Dr W.M Tovell Seconded by Dr. T.H Leith THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT Considerntion be given to informing The Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto and the City of Toronto of the sediment-generating potential of drainage systems on bridges, particularly those noted over the Roseda1e Valley Ravine and at the Bloor Viaduct. THAT The report on the Watershed Plan Implementation - Update be received CARRIED; -3- J-3 PROPOSED SEMINAR - LAND USE IMPACT Res 18 Moved by Dr. W.M. Tovell Seconded by Dr. T H Le i th THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT A one-day seminar be sponsored in the fall by the Don Valley Advisory Board to inform municipal officials and staff, public interest groups and individuals, and members of the development industry, of the impac t of changing land use within the watershed; and THAT Dr. W M Tove1l act as liaison between the Board and the staff in drawing up the format and items for discussion at the seminar. Seconded by Dr. w.n Tove 11 THAT The staff be requested to review the status of the Report and the Plan prepared by the Lower Don Task Force; and THAT staff review any components of the Plan for tree and shrub planting which might be considered for implementation by the Authority CARRIED; Mrs. Lois Hancey W E.
