FlYnn MINUTES The Minutes of Meeting #2/72 were presented. Res. #1 Moved by: T.P. Henry Seconded by: Mrs. J.D. Reid RESOLVED THAT: The Minutes of Meeting #2/72, as presented, be adopted as if read. STAFF PROGRESS REPORT The Staff Progress Report for the period January to April, 1973 was presented by Mr. Barber, and discussed in detail. AUTHORITY MEMBERS - LECTURES The Members discussed the possibility of more contact with the people in the region, through the Members speaking to various service clubs and other groups regarding activities of the Authority. Nobleman THE BqARD RECOMMENDS THAT: The Staff determine how many of Authority Members would be available to give illustrated lectures to various service clubs and other groups regarding activities of the Authority. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; J G-2 -2- CORPORATE IDENTIFICATION - FIELD STUDY Res. Moved by: E. Madonia Seconded by: B. Nobleman RESOLVED THAT: In view of lack of monies being available for the Field study of the Corporate Identification, a committee be appointed to investigate economical ways and means'of implementing a Field study similar to the work outlined in the proposal by Stewart & Morrison Limited dated June 14, 1972. The Resolution was - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - NOT CARRIED; Dr. Tovell declared a conflict of interest and abstained from the discussion and the vote. Nelligan THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: Adjustments be made to the Information and Education budget to. provide $2,000.00 to implement a F.ield Study of the corporate Identification, as outlined in the proposal by Stewart & Morrison Limited dated June 14, 1972; and further THAT the Executive Committee consider providing the remaining funds for the Study. CARRIED; Dr. Tovell declared a conflict of interest and abstained from the discussion and the vote. Il~Oro.~TION SEMINAR - AUTHORITY MEMBERS Res. #4 Moved by: B. Nobleman Seconded by: Mrs. M.A. Reid THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: A one-day Information Seminar be held at the Albion Hills or Claremont Conservation Field Centre, as~soon as possible, for Members of the Authority, Advisory Boards and Committees; and further ~rlAT a Cowmittee be appointed to implement the Seminar. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; 1974 PRELIMINARY DEVELOPMENT BUDGET ESTIMATES The 1974 Preliminary Development Budget Estimates were presented and discussed. Res. #5 Moved by: B. Ross Lord Darn and Reservoir be officially opened in the fall of 1973; and further THAT the Staff, in consultation with the Chairman of the Flood Control and Water Conservation Advisory Board and the Chairman of the Information and Education Advisory Board be directed to make the necessary arrangements. CARR SUPERVISOR, ALBION HILLS CONSERVATION FIELD CENTRE A communication from Terry A. Carr, expressing his appreciation to the Authority for the assistance received during his leave of absence, and attaching two copies of his thesis, entitled "Conservat- ion Education and Outdoor Education in the Gwydyr Forest", which assisted in qualifying h~ for his M.Sc. in Conservation, were presented. Carr, together with two copies of his thesis - "Conservation Education and Outdoor Education in the Gwydyr Forest" be received; and THAT Mr. Carr be congratulated on being awarded his M.Sc. in Con- servation; and further THAT appreciation be extended to Mr. Carr on behalf of the Authority for the two copies of his thesis presented at this meeting. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; G-7 -2- THESIS - "ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND TEACHER TRAINING IN BRITAIN AND IN ONTARIO" - GRAHAM LAMONT - ASSISTANT SUPERVISOR - ALBION HILLS CONSERVATION FIELD CENTRE Mr. Barber presented to Mrs. Gell, on behalf of Graham Lamont, Assistant Supervisor, Albion Hills Conservation Field Centre, a copy of his thesis, entitled "Environmental Education and Teacher Training in Britain and in Ontario", for the Authority Library. Dunlop RESOLVED THAT: The copy of thesis "Environmental Education and Teacher Training in Britain and in Ontario", presented to the Advisory Board on behalf of Graham Lamont, be received with appreciation; and THAT Mr. Lamont be thanked for the copies presented at this meeting. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; PROPOSED NEWS MEDIA RECEPTION-DINNER A communication from Mr. John Grimshaw, Ontario Editorial Bureau, suggesting that the Authority host a reception and dinner, at an appropriate time, at the Black Creek Pioneer Village, for the news media, was presented and discussed in some detail. Dunlop RESOLVED THAT: The communication from Mr. John Grimshaw, Ontario Editorial Bureau, be received; and THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: The Executive Committee consider hosting a reception and dinner at the Black Creek Pioneer Village for the news media, at an appropriate time early in 1974. Card RESOLVED THAT: The Staff Progress Report be received with ap- preciation and that the members of the Staff be congratulated on their efforts during the past year. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; -3- G-8 KORTRIGHT CENTRE FOR CONSERVATION MASTER SITE PIAN OF DEVELOPMENT Mr. Barber, assisted by members of the Staff, presented the proposed Master Site Plan of Development for the Kortright Centre, dated November 29, 1973. Res. #14 Moved by: T.P. Henry Seconded by: Mrs. W.J. Corcoran RESOLVED THAT: The Master Site Plan of Development for the Kortright Centre for Conservation, dated November 29, 1973, be received; and THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: The following action be taken in con- nection with the Master Site Plan of Development for the Kortright Centre for Conservation: 1. The Master Site Plan of Development for the Kortright Centre for Conservation, dated November 29, 1973, be approved; 2. The Metropolitan Toronto and Region Conservation Foundation be requested to provide funds to engage a design consultant to prepare preliminary sketch plans and proposals with cost estimates for the exhibits, displays, audio visual materials and equipment within the Kortright Centre building. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; CONSERVATION EDUCATION COMMITTEE A communication was presented having regard to a programme analysis of the Conservation Education Programme of the Authority and suggesting that special studies and analyses be carried on, on a continuing basis. Res. #15 Moved by: Mrs. J.D. Reid Seconded by: Mrs. W.J. Corcoran RESOLVED THAT: The communication having regard to Conservation Education Committee be received; and THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: Miss C. Steele be retained to conduct special studies and programme analyses, on a continuing basis, at the various Conservation Education projects of the Authority, as required by the Information and Education Division; and THAT she be authorized to obtain up to three persons, if necessary, to assist with the project or analyses; and THAT a per diem of $30.00, plus expenses, be provided to the Committee members. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; INFORMATION SEMINAR AUTHOR! TY MEMBERS A proposed one-day Information Seminar for Authority Members was discussed in some detail. Res. #16 Moved by: E.H. Card Seconded by: J. Dunlop THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: A one-day Information Seminar be held at the Claremont Conservation Field Centre on Friday, January 25, 1974; and THAT participants be notified to take up residence at the Centre on Thursday evening, January 24; and further THAT all Authority Members and such other persons as may be deemed appropriate be invited to attend. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; G-9 -4- NEW BUSINESS 1974 SPORTSMEN'S SHOW Mr. Card advised the Meeting that it is proposed to have an exhibit at the Sportsmen's Show in 1974 and requested the cooperation of the Board and Staff to undertake the necessary arrangements.
