Mr. McLean presented the Staff Progress Report for the period from
January to the present time.

UXBRIDGE CONSERVATION AREA
The matter of the future of the Uxbridge Conservation Area, which
was referred by the Executive Committee for consideration, was
discussed at some length.

THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: The Uxbridge Conservation Area be
utilized only for forestry purposes; and that the Authority request
the Ontario Department of Lands and Forests to enter into an
agreement with the Authority for the management of the Uxbridge
Conservation Area as an Agreement Forest.

WINTER SPORTS - EASTERN AREA
A Staff report was presented having regard to a study made in
connection with the proposed development of a winter sports,
including a ski area, in the eastern area of the watersheds.

ment for winter sports area in the Greenwood Conservation Area.

GREENWOOD CONSERVATION AREA
A Plan was presented, recommending the development of a swimming
pond in the Greenwood Area.

THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: The design of the swimming pond for the
Greenwood Conservation Area, C14CS, dated April-1967, be approved;
and further,
THAT the Staff be directed to proceed with the construction, within
budget limits.

FEES FOR GROUP USE IN
CONSERVATION AREAS
Resolution #24 of Authority Meeting #1/67 directing the Board to
review the fees charged for groups using Conservation Areas was
considered in some detail.

The matter of providing a more adequate Superintendent's house at
Heart Lake Conservation Area was considered in some detail.

recommendations.

A Staff communication was presented, advising that in compliance
w~th Res. #5 of the Reforestation and Land Use Advisory Board
regarding additional staff for erosion control, the recommendat~on
w~ll be presented to the Personnel Sub-Committee to f~ll the
present vacant position of Technical Assistant - Agricultural
Engineering.

February 19, 1964, be concurred w~t.h;
(b ~ The proposal to develop the Petticoat Creek Conservation Area
as a fam~ly camp ground in co-opel"at~on with the Ontario Dept.
of Lands and Forests be given no further consideration;
(c i The Petticoat Creek Area be developed as soon as possible as
a Conservation Area according to Authority policies;
(d) The Staff be directed to prepare a proposal fer the develop-
ment of overnight camp grounds for l~ghtly equipped hikers;
the proposal to ~nclude tr~al camp~ng weekends in 1968;
(e) The next promotional brochure which is prepared for the Con-
servation Areas include a description of the Authority's
camping programme;
(fJ The Authority cooperate, where possible, in the matter of
providing land, with the member munic~pal~t~es or other
governmental bodies, in the establishment of family
camp~ng areas, where such use is not ~ conflict with a
present use of Authority lands.

DEPARTMENT OF LANDS &- FORESTS
NEW ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME
A communicat~on was presented advising that the Department of
Lands and Forests have announced two new Assistance Programmes:
(a " dealing w~th large nursery stocks and shrubs for
Conservat~on Authorities and Mun~c~pal~ties; and
(b) advising that the Department of Lands and Forests
are prepared to enter into agreements w~th the
owners of lands adjoining streams, to provide
access for f~shing by the publ~G.

RESOLVED THAT: The commun~cation deal~ng with the two new
programmes announced by the Department of Lands and Forests be
received; and further in this connection,
THE BOARDS RECOMMEND THAT: The following action be taken.
(a.l Where the Authorityts stock of landscape trees is insuf-
ficient to meet the needs of its exist~ng planting
programmes, the additional necessary trees be acqu~red from
the Department of Lands and Forests;
(b) Present Authority reforestation programme be extended by
mak1ng available to private landowners, w~ldl~fe shrubs
on the following terms:

. . , That the landowner owns a minimum of 10 acres in

one parcel where the shrubs are to be planted;
(ii; That no shrubs be planted closer than 200 feet to
any building;
(iii) That the landowner be required to purchase a
minimum of 100 shrubs at a cost of SO~ per shrub,
planted;
(iv) That the shrubs be planted according to a plan
approved by the Authority;
(c) The Staff be directed to bring to the attention of the
Ontario Department of Lands and Forests those sections of
streams included in the plan for streambank erosion control
on which there is a fishing potential, in order that the
Department may give consideration to including them in its
recently announced public fishing programme.

ROADSIDE PLANTINGS
A communication was presented advising that the Executive Committee
had appointed a Sub-Committee composed of R.L. Nesbitt, C. Sauriol
and Mrs. 'F. Gell, with power to add, to plan the proposed Symposium
on Roadside Plantings.

Symposium on Roadside Plantings and Wayside Conservation be
requested to consider holding the said Symposium on Arbor Day in

DEMONSTRATION - MAPLE SYRUP OPERATION
A Staff communication was presented, as directed by Meeting #1/67
of the Reforestation and Land Use Advisory Board, regarding the
possible establishment of a Maple Syrup Operation, which would be
made available to the general public and schools, for demonstration
and educational purposes.

RESOLVED THAT: The communication on the proposed Demonstration .-
Maple Syrup Operation, be received; and further,
THE BOARDS RECOMMEND THAT: The following action be taken:
(a) A demonstration Maple Syrup Operation be commenced at the
Bruce's Mill Conservation Area in 1968;
(b) The demonstration area be made available to schools and
other interested groups - Monday to Friday, ~th a fee of
40~ per person; and that it be made available to the general
public on weekends, at a fee of $1.00 per car.

A communication was presented advising that The Vill.age of Woodbridge
has requested pe~ission to re-l.ocate the baseball d~ond presently
located in the Woodbridge Conservation Area, and to install flood
lighting.

THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: Permission be granted to The Village of
Woodbridge to re-locate their basebal.l diamond in the Woodbridge
Conservation Area,- and to install flood lighting on the ball
diamond, subject to a suitable agreement containing the foll.owing
conditions:

(a) the Village of Woodbridge pay all costs in connection
with the project
(b) the design of the" facility be satisfactory to the
Administrator of the Conservation Land Management
Division. and the Administrator of the Flood Control
Division
(c) the Village of Woodbridge have adequate insurance
coverage for the facility
(d) the Village of Woodbridge maintain the facility to the
satisfaction of the Authority; and
(e) that a suitable termination clause be included.

PROPOSED SKI INSTRUCTION SCHOOL
A Staff communication was presented advising that a request had
been received from Chinguacousy Recreation Committee to operate a
ski instruction school at the Heart Lake Conservat~on Ar~a d~ring
the winter period of 1968.

THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: The Chinguacousy Recreation Committee
be granted permission to operate a ski instruction school at the
Heart Lake Conservation Area during the winter period of 1968,
subject to an agreement containing the following conditions:
(a) regular parking fees apply
(b) the school is operated to the satisfaction of the
Conservation Land Management Administrator
(c) the Chinguacousy Recreation Committee provide
adequate insurance coverage for persons attending
_ the scnool; and
(d) that a suitable termination clause be included.
