STAFF PROGRESS REPORT
The staff presenred a report on a number of items which are in progress on the
Humber River watershed:
(a) Water and Related Land Management
The updating of the Flood Control Plan is progressing and it is anticipate~
that all of the studies will be complete by the end of 1979.
The new contour mapping and the hydrology for the watershed are now complete.
The hydrology which has been prepared enables the calculation of flows for
the 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 year and Regional Storms. The plotting of the area
flooded by the Regional Storm on the maps is almost complete. A consultant
is presently calculating the flood damages that could be expected under
Regional Storm conditions in the Flood Damage Centres which the flood line
mapping has identified.
K-2 -2-
(a) Water and Related Land Management (Contd. )
The erosion control work for 1979 on the Humber watershed was reviewed,
and the sites which are being considered for 1980 were identified.
The Board was advised that the flood control studies in the Oak Ridges area
indicate that flood control relief in that area can be achieved by enlarging
a road crossing culvert and channelizing a section of the stream. It is
anticipated that work on the Oak Ridges project will commence in 1980 or
1981.
(b) Headwaters' Programme
The staff outlined the work programme which has been developed for identify-
ing environmentally sensitive areas in the valley system and in the Head-
water Zone. A considerable amount of work has already been completed, and
the programme will continue, using students, in the summer of 1979.
