Purcell RESOLVED THAT: The Minutes of Meeting #2/71, as presented, be adopted. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; STAFF PROGRESS REPORT The Staff Progress Report for the period January 1 to May 7, 1972 was presented. Re s . #2 Moved by: J.S. Scott Se-conded by: C. Sauriol RESOLVED THAT: The Staff Progress Report for the period January 1 to May 7, 1972, be received and filed. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; D-2 -2- 1973 PRELIMINARY BUDGET ESTIMATES The 1973 Preliminary Budget Estimates were presented and discussed. Res. #3 Moved by: R.G. Henderson Seconded by: C.R. Purcell RESOLVED THAT: The 1973 Preliminary Budget Estimates, as presented, be approved in principle; and further THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: The 1973 Preliminary Budget Estimates, as appended as Schedule "A" of these Minutes, be included in the 1973 Preliminary Budget Estimates of the Authority. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; 1972 SWEEP PROGRAMME A Staff communication was presented having regard to the 1972 SWEEP Programme of the Ontario Government. Res. #4 Moved by: J.S. Scott Seconded by: W. James RESOLVED THAT: The communication having regard to the 1972 SWEEP Programme of the Ontario Government be received and filed. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; FOX HUNTING IN CONSERVATION AREAS Pursuant to Executive Resolution #23/71 referred to the Staff for study and report to the Conservation Areas Advisory Board, a Staff communication was presented having regard to a request from the Toronto and North York Hunt for permission to ride over Authority lands to privately owned lands on which hunts would be conducted. Res. #5 Moved by: C. Sauriol Seconded by: J.S. Scot t RESOLVED THAT: The Staff communication having regard to Fox Hunting in Conservation Areas be received; and THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: The request from the Toronto and North York Hunt for permission to use lands owned by the Authority for fox hunting be refused; and further THAT the Authority cooperate in every way possible to encourage the Toronto and North York Hunt to ride in Conservation Areas where this use has been approved and only for the purpose of trail riding. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; PEDAL PATHS IN CONSERVATION AREAS Pursuant to Executive Resolution #369/71, a Staff report was presented having regard to pedal paths in Conservation Areas. Re s. #6 Moved by: C.R. Purcell Seconded by: N.J. Scott RESOLVED THAT: The Staff Report having regard to Pedal Paths in Conservation Areas be received; and THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: The Staff be authorized to investigate the need and cooperate in the development of bicycle paths in -3- D-3 suitable Conservation Areas and other lands managed by the Authority. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; ONTARIO TRAIL RIDERS ASSOCIATION A Staff communication, together with letter from the Secretary of the Ontario Trail Riders Association, was presented. Mr. and Mrs. H.B. McCallum appeared before the Board and presented a proposal on behalf of the said Association that the Authority give consider- ation to their request for a proposed multi-purpose recreational trail known as the Great Pine Ridge Trail, as follows: (a) The privilege of passing through Authority low density areas, which lie directly on route of their Great Pine Ridge Trail, which route at present traverses the least travelled roads or trails along the height of land; ~b) Consideration of feeder trail extending south from the Great Pine Ridge Trail down the watershed of Duffin's Creek from Glen Major to the boundaries of Metropolitan Toronto; (c) Consideration of urban feeder trails using valley lands of the Humber River and East Rouge River, accommodating compatible trail users, such as horsemen, hikers, skiers, snowshoers, bicyclers, etc. Res. #7 Moved by: Dr. G. Ross Lord Seconded by: K.C. Dalglish RESOLVED THAT: The presentation and requests of the Ontario Trail Riders Association, as presented by Mrs. Mavis L. McCallum, Treasurer of the Association, be received and referred to the Staff for study and report back with recommendations. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; SECOND TORONTO AIRPORT The Chairman advised the meeting that he had been exploring the possibilities of the Authority cooperating and perhaps managing certain of the lands proposed to be acquired by the Federal Government for the proposed new Toronto Airport. Res. #8 Moved by: Mrs. M.W. Lister Seconded by: J.S. Scott RESOLVED THAT: The Chairman continue his efforts in connection with the possible protection and management of certain lands which may be acquired in connection with the second Toronto Airport. Following the presentation, the Board Meeting adjourned for a site visit to the proposed Metropolitan Region Conservation Centre, accOmpanied by Members of the Reforestation and Land Use Advisory Board and Staff.
