MINUTES The Minutes of Meeting #1/7l were presented. Res. #l Moved by: R. Jennings Seconded by: L.B. Goodfellow RESOLVED THAT: The Minutes of Meeting #1/71, as presented, be adopted as read. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; STAFF PROGRESS REPORT Mr. Sutter reviewed the various projp~~~ currently in progress in the Humber Watershed. Res. #2 Moved by: A.H. Cowling Seconded by: Mrs. F. Gell K-2 -2- RESOLVED THAT: The Staff Progress report, as presented, be received. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; OUTFALL SURVEY - HUMBER RIVER AND ITS TRIBUTARIES Mr. Sutter presented a summary of a report and recommendations prepared by the Ministry of the Environment (formerly OWRC) of a storm sewer outfall survey of the Humber River and its tributaries within the bounds of Metropolitan Toronto. Mr. Neil Embree of the Ministry of the Environment (formerly OWRC) was present to answer questions. The report was discussed in considerable detail by the Board members. The report included recommendations regarding the investigation and correction of the cause or causes of poor quality effluent from a number of storm sewer outfalls. Re s. # 3 Moved by: P. Yerex RESOLVED THAT: The report prepared by the Ministry of the Environ- ment (formerly OWRC) of a storm sewer outfall survey of the Humber River and its tributaries within the bounds of Metropolitan Toronto be received; and THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: In regard to the report prepared by the Ministry of the Environment (formerly OWRC) on a storm sewer outfall survey of the Humber River and its tributaries within the bounds of Metropolitan Toronto, the Technical Coordinating Committee for Water Pollution Control in Metropolitan Toronto be requested to consider and recommend a suitable time schedule for the undertaking of investigations of the cause or causes of poor quality effluent from storm sewer outfalls. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; STUDENT WORK PROGRAMME GENERAL FOODS Mr. Higgs presented an outline of a proposed Student Work Programme to be undertaken in the Humber Watershed by General Foods Limited, in cooperation with the Ministry of Natural Resources, Metropolitan Toronto Parks and Recreation Department and the Authority. Res. #4 Moved by: T. Patrick Henry Seconded by: P. White THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: The Student Work Programme to be under- taken in the Humber Watershed by General Foods Limited, in co- operation with the Ministry of Natural Resources, Metropolitan Toronto Parks and Recreation Department and the Authority, be approved; and further THAT suitable transportation for the five students working on the river resources inventory be provided by the Authority. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; CONFERENCE RE EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION, CAUSES, EFFECTS, CONTROLS Mrs. Gardner gave a brief outline of the Conference on Erosion and Sedimentation, Causes, Effects and Controls, which was jointly -3- K-3 sponsored by the Conservation Council of Ontario and the Ontario Chapter of the Soil Conservation Society of America. She advised that one of the recommendations of the Conference was that individuals, developers and others should be made aware of the vulnerability to erosion of certain areas. She further advised that the Hamilton Region Conservation Authority publishes an information brochure on this problem. Res. #S Moved by: P. White Seconded by: w. James RESOLVED THAT: The Staff be directed to obtain sufficient copies of the Hamilton Region Conservation Authority's publication on Erosion for circulation to the Members of the Humber Valley Advisory Board for their information and comment.
