STAFF REPORT
Mr. Sutter presented a detailed verbal Staff Report of projects
and proposals of concern to the Board.
PROPOSED PEDESTRIAN CONNECTION

THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: The Metropolitan Parks Department be
requested to consider the establishment of a pedestrian connection
between Todmorden Mills Park and the Edwards Gardens Area.

ONTARIO SCIENCE CENTRE
PROPOSED NATURE WALK
Mr. T.W. Thompson reported on studies made for a nature walk in
the vicinity of the Ontario Science Centre.
PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT
LOWER DON VALLEY
Mr. T.W. Thompson reported progress on a study of possible
development of the Lower Don area. He advised that every effort
is being made by the task force to have a Master Plan available
early in 1972. In response to a suggestion from Mr. Scott, he
advised that assistance by a University or other agency would be
welcomed.

RESOLVED THAT: The report on plans for development of the Lower
Don area be received; and further
THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: The Metropolitan Parks Department be
urged to do everything possible to have a Master Plan of develop-
ment for the Lower Don area available early in 1972.

OUTFALL SURVEY REPORT - OWRC •
Mr. N.C. Embree of The Ontario Water Resources Commission
presented a comprehensive report of an Outfall Survey of the Don
River recently carried out. The Report and its implications
was discussed at some length.

RESOLVED THAT: The Staff prepare a summary of The Ontario Water
Resources Commission Report on the Outfall Survey of the Don
River for the information of Members, at the next Meeting.

THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: The Municipalities concerned be
requested to advise the Authority of the action being taken
locally in connection with the Report on the Outfall Survey of
the Don River carried out by The Ontario Water Resources
Commission.

THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: The Ontario Water Resources Commission,
in co- operation with the municipalities concerned, be requested to
carry out continuing tests of outfalls in the Don River at regular
quarterly intervals.

PROPOSED AERATION OF THE LOWER DON
Mr. Thompson suggested that aeration of the waters of the Lower
Don by means of a system of fountains might be of value in
improving the quality of the waters of the Don.

THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: The Ontario Water Resources Commission,
in co- operation with the Metropolitan Corporation, study the
feasibility and usefulness of a system of aeration of the Lower
Don, with a view to improving the quality of the water.

OF YORK MILLS VALLEY
A Report of the Anti- Pollution Committee of York Mills Valley was
presented by representatives of the group.

Resources Commission, presented the Progress Report of The Ontario
Water Resources Commission Outfall Studies on the Don.

RESOLVED THAT: The Progress Report on The Ontario Water Resources
Commission Water Quality Studies of the Don be received, together
with the communication from The City of Toronto; and be referred to
the Technical Advisory Committee on Parks and Conservation for
consideration and recommendation.

REPORT RE QUEEN'S YORK RANGERS'
INSPECTION TOUR
Mr. Perkins reported on his attendance at the Inspection Tour of
the Queen's York Rangers and stated that a report would be received
in due course of their findings.

RESOLVED THAT: A Committee, composed of Dr. W.M. Tovell and Mr.
E.H. Card, be requested to arrange a meeting with officials of the
Don Valley Brickyard to discuss the future use of the property.

DISPOSAL OF WRECKED AUTOMOBILES

THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: The Authority, being vitally interested
in the present 'Littercheck' campaign, request the Department of the
Environment, in cooperation with the major automobile manufacturers,
to accept the responsibility, as good corporate citizens, to
gradually eliminate all wrecked automobile dumps and abandoned
automobiles, by means of compacting procedures and /or re- cycling
processes, as a further step in improving the aesthetic landscape
of The Province of Ontario.

release in the areas under the jurisdiction of the Authority.
