SCHEDULE "A" 1 -5
TO: The Don Valley Advisory Board
RE: STATUS OF SANITARY LANDFILLS - DON VALLEY
The following is submitted in reply to your request concerning
the status of landfill sites in the Don Valley in which the
Metropolitan Works Department was involved.
(1) RIVERDALE LANDFILL SITE between Broadview Avenue and Don
Valley Parkway, south of Danforth Avenue was completed in
1962 and is now a much used public park.
Gas control measures have been installed in some areas
and regular monitoring is maintained. There is no
evidence of leachate.
(2) POTTERY ROAD LANDFILL SITE between the C.P.R. right -of -way
and the Don River, northeast of Bayview Avenue Extension
was completed in 1965 as far as general refuse was concerned.
Covering was carried on with incinerator ash and other
inert refuse. In 1968 an extension to provide for embank-
ment stabilization of the Bayview Avenue Extension using
ash residue was started. Completion of this project
is expected in 1971.
The site has been checked for gas migration and no discernible
hazard observed. Some leachate was observed but completion
of surface grading is expected to alleviate the situation.
Turf is being developed over the completed portions of
this site.
(3)
DONLANDS LANDFILL SITE between Donlands Avenue and the
Don Valley Parkway east of the Leaside Bridge was completed
in 1963. Good turf has been developed for some time.
This scheme was undertaken in part to control erosion which
jeopardized several garages on private properties. The
stabilized slope now existing has eliminated the
hazard.
Gas control measures have been installed and regular
monitoring maintained. Leachate is drained off into a
sanitary sewer.
(L1) BERMONDSEY LANDFILL SITE west of Bermondsey Road and
north of Northline Road was completed initially in 1961.
and turf developed. Earlier this year additional refuse
was placed by the Borough of East York.
Gas control measures have been installed and monitoring
maintained. A leachate under - drainage system has been
installed which is connected to a sanitary sewer.

(5)
GRENOBLE LANDFILL SITE between the C.N.R. and the
Don Valley Parkway, south of Grenoble Drive was initiated
by the Metropolitan Works Department but the actual
operation of the landfill was turned over to the Borough
of North York in association with East York, Placement of
fill was completed in 1967.
No gas hazard has been noted. There is no evidence of
leachate present. Turf has not yet been developed.
(6) LEASIDE LANDFILL SITES
(1) South of Eglinton east to Brentcliffe was completed
in 1967. A reasonably good turf has been developed.
A leachate collection system was installed in 196$ which
has been largely effective. No gas control measures
have been installed.
(2) South of Wicksteed Avenue east of C.P.R. tracks
was completed prior to 1956. Weed growth has developed
to cover the site. No gas control system has been
installed except around a small metal building owned
by C.P.R. Some leachate was observed.
(3) South of Wicksteed Avenue east of C.P.R. tracks,
is a comparatively small area and was completed prior
to 1956.
The area is *maintained by the G.P.R.
No gas control measures have been installed and there
is no visible leachate.
(!) North of C.N.R. west of junction of the East and
West Don Rivers, was completed in 1961. The area is
wholly developed for park use with a parking lot.
No gas control measures have been installed and there is
no visible leachate.
