Crean, Chairman of the Board and Mr. D.N. Omand, Director - General of the Centre and toured a portion of the Centre and the surrounding Don Valley parkland. PRESENT WERE Chairman E.H. Res. #1 Moved by: L.H. Saunders Seconded by:- Mrs. G. deGuerre RESOLVED THAT: The Minutes of Meeting #2/6$, as presented, be adopted as if read. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; PROPOSED LINK BETWEEN THE MAIN DON AND THE MASSEY CREEK VALLEY Res. #2 Moved by: Miss T. Davidson Seconded by: C. Sauriol RESOLVED THAT: The Metropolitan Toronto Parks Commissioner be requested to advise as to their plans for a pedestrian walkway between the Massey Creek valley and the Main valley of the Don. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; 1 -2 -2- PROPOSED PLAQUE - CENTENNIAL CENTRE OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY During the visit to the Centennial Centre of Science & Technology, the Director - General stated that the Centre would like to erect a plaque on the patio overlooking the valley, acknowledging the co= operation and assistance of the Authority and the Metropolitan Toronto Parks Department in connection with the development of the Centre. Res. #3 Moved by: C. Sauriol Seconded by: A. 0/Donohue THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: The Authority approve in principle the proposal of the Centennial Centre of Science & Technology to erect a plaque on the patio overlooking the Don Valley, acknowledg- ing the contributions made by the Authority and the Metropolitan Toronto Parks Department, which helped make the Centre a reality. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; Mr. Sauriol suggested that an acknowledgment of the years of promotional activity by the Don Valley Conservation Association be included in such acknowledgment. WATER QUALITY - DON RIVER VICINITY OF BLOOR STREET The Staff was requested to provide Mr. 0/Donohue with a report on the water quality of the Don River in the vicinity of Bloor Street and to enquire of the appropriate municipal officials regarding the possibility of improving conditions in that area. Miss T. Davidson requested that the Board be kept informed of the condition of any recent land slides in the valley. ADJOURNMENT On Motion, the Meeting adjourned at 1:00 p.m., May 9. E.H. Tovell RESOLVED THAT: The Staff Progress Report of activities in the Don Watershed to date be received and filed. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; USE OF FLOOD PLAIN LANDS IN THE VICINITY OF ONTARIO SCIENCE CENTRE Res. #6 Moved by: Seconded by: Miss T. Davidson F.R. Perkins I -4 -2- RESOLVED THAT: The Board be advised immediately of any suggest- ion or proposal to utilize any portion of the flood plain or valley lands in the vicinity of the Ontario Science Centre for parking purposes. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; PEDESTRIAN WALKWAYS - DON VALLEY Res. #7 Moved by: Miss T. Davidson Seconded by: N.H. Smith THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: The Commissioner of Parks for Metropolitan Toronto be reminded of the request to establish a suitable pedestrian walkway between the Massey Creek Valley and the main Valley of the Don; and further in this connection THAT he be requested to consider providing mimeographed maps of pedestrian walkways in the Don Valley and, if the demand for same is sufficient, to consider printing the same. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; PARK AREA NAMES Res. #8 Moved by: C. Sauriol Seconded by: F.R. Perkins THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: The Metropolitan Parks Department be requested to consider naming the proposed Metropolitan Park on the east branch of the Don between York Mills Road and Sheppard Avenue, or some other suitable area, as the William Berzy Park. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; NATURE TRAIL - VICINITY OF ONTARIO SCIENCE CENTRE Res. #9 Moved by: Dr. G. Ross Lord Seconded by: L.H. Saunders THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: The Metropolitan Parks Department be requested to construct a suitable permanent nature trail around the perimeter of the pond area in the vicinity of the Ontario Science Centre and that Mr. C. Sauriol be directed to discuss the proposal with the Metropolitan Toronto Parks Commissioner. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY; DISPOSAL OF SURPLUS NURSERY STOCK Res. #10 Moved by: N.J. Scott Seconded by: C. Sauriol THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: In future, any surplus nursery stock from the Authority Nursery be made available to public groups and agencies for planting in the park and valley areas of the Metropolitan Toronto region.
