Advisory Bc'ard for the 1962 Opening were discussed in some detail.

THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT:- as a matter of policy,
every effort be made to adequately protect the Percy
Band Toy Collection when exhibited or stored at the
Pioneer Village.

A Staff Progress Report was presented and discussed in some detail.
PROPOSED ADDITIONAL STRUCTURES:
Mr. Colucci brought to the attention of the Board certain structures
which might be considered for inclusion in the Pioneer Village.

CANADIAN CENTENARY COUNCIL:
Mrs. Hague presented a detailed report of a Meeting which the
Canadian Centenary Council held on March 9th and 10th, 1962, and
recommended that the Brief prepared by the Staff in 1960 for consider-
ation by the Province be reviewed and revised for the present purpose
of an application to the Province for a Grant to assist in the
completion of the Pioneer Village as a local Centennial project.

BRIEF RE FEDERAL & PROVINCIAL ASSISTANCE - CANADIAN. CENTENNIAL:
The Director of Operations outlined a draft Brief requesting financial
- gsistance from the Federal and Provincial Governments for completion
of the Pioneer Village, Black Creek Conservation Area, as the
Authority's contribution to Canada's Centennial Celebration.
THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT:- the Brief requesting
financial assistance from the Federal and
Provincial Governments for completion of the
Pioneer Village, Black Creek Conservation Area,
as the Authority's contribution to Canada's
Centennial Celebration, be finalized and
submitted to the Members of the Historical Sites
Advisory Board for comment and submitted to the
Executive Committee for approval at their next
Meeting.
INDIAN VILLAGE:
Mrs. Hague read a letter from Prof. Emerson of the University of Toronto
proposing the establishment of an Indian Village adjacent to the
Black Creek at Finch ;venue.

19th CENTURY TOY COLLECTION:
Mr. Colucci presented a report outlining the necessity of an improved
display location for the 19th Century Toy Collection.

Museum Building at the Pioneer Village, Black Creek
Conservation Area;

this report, consideration be given to co- ordinating
such a building with York University in order that
it may also serve as a centre for the studying of
Canadiana.

TECHNICAL ADVISORY SUB - COMMITTEE
of the
HISTORICAL SITES ADVISORY BOARD
The Technical Advisory Sub - Commitee met at the Claremont Conservation
Area on Thursday, November 1st, 1962, commencing at 4 :00 p.m.
Prior to the formal Meeting, site visits were paid to the Half -WO
House, Kingston Road and Midland Avenue, and the Bayles" Mill on
the former John Bayles? property.

The following matters were considered:
(1) The desirability and suitability of the Half -Way House as
an Inn for the Pioneer Village;
(2) The suitability of utilizing the material in the Bayles"
Mill for reconstruction of a Grist Mill at the Pioneer
Village;
(3)
The location of the proposed Harness Shop in the Pioneer
Village;
(4) Plans for Drive Shed re Gentleman "s House;
It was agreed, and the Sub - Committee Recommends:
(1) That in view of the state of preservation and the practicability
of moving in addition to other considerations, that di ould
the Half -Way House become available, it be em quired.and moved and
reconstructed at the Pioneer Village;
(2) That the Bayles" Mill, while not suitable for restoration
on its present site, would be worthwhile utilizing the timbers
and much of the material in it for restoration at the Pioneer
Village, and further that it would make a valuable contribution
to the Village in the form of a Grist Mill. In general, the
Mill should be situated on the North side of Steeles Avenue
abutting on the Black Creek, providing soil and other conditions
are suitable;
That the Harness Shop be reconstructed on the North side
of the Cross-Road immediately East of the Blacksmith Shop,
and further that the Staff commence reconstruction at the
earliest possible date.
That the plans for the Drive Shed of the Gentleman's House
be approved and that the Staff be instructed to:,commennee
restoration immediately;
