Dalglish Secretary - Treasurer F. L. Lunn Dir. of Operations K. G. Higgs Asst. Dir. of Opert. E. F. Sutter MINUTES: Res. #1 Moved By:- Wc. Dennison Seconded By:- C. Sauriol RESOLVED THAT:- The Minutes of Meeting No. 1/62 as presented, be adopted as if read. Carrie-' Unanimously. WEST DON EROSION: Mr. Hiscott brought to the attention of the Board the serious erosion problem existing on the West Branch of the Don River North of Eglinton Avenue. Res. #2 Moved By:- C. H. Hiscott Seconded By:- Mrs. G. Klinck THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT:- a serious erosion problem on the West Branch of the Don River North of Eglinton Avenue at the rear of certain lots on Rykert Cresc., be investigated by the Staff. Adopted Unanimously REFER TO EXECUTIVE PROPOSED ZOOLOGICAL GARDNES: Miss Davidson brought to the attention of the Meeting certain proposals which were being prepared by the Metropolitan Parks Depart- ment in connection with the proposed establishment of a Zoological Gardens on the land owned by the Authority in the Don Valley. Res. #3 Moved By:- F. M. Redelmeier Seconded By:- Miss T. Davidson RESOLVED THAT:- the Metropolitan Toronto Parks I -2 - 2 - Department be invited to present the plans for the proposed Zoological Gardens to this Board at the earliest opportunity. Carried. GLEN YAN -- LOCATION OF: A suggestion was discussed at some length regardjng a marker to commemorate the location of Glen Yan as mentioned by Ernest Thompson Seton in one of his books. Mr. Sauriol offered to take the matter up with the Don Valley Conservation Association with the suggestion that they undertake the erection of a suit able marker. Res. #4 Moved By:- Miss T. Davidson Seconded By:- Mrs. Klinck RESOLVED THAT:- Mr. Sauriol be commended for his offer to bring the matter of the location of Glen Yan, mentioned by Ernest Thompson Seton in one of his books, to the attention of the Don Valley Conserv- ation Association for action. Carried Unanimously. AUTHORITY TOUR: A discussion took place with regard to the arrangement of a series of tours covering all parts of the Region. Res. #5 Moved By:- Miss T. Davidson Seconded By:- W. J. Haggart THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT:- a series of Watershed Tours be arranged to view Authority projects; AND BE IT FURTHER RECOMMENDED THAT:- one such Tour be arranged for the Don Watershed on Friday, June 1st, 1962. Honsberge-f, 41 Old Yonge Street, commencing at 4:15 p.m. Prior to the Meeting, the Board, accompanied by Members of the Executive Committee, had completed a Field Inspection Tour of: (a) York Mills Flood Control Channel (b) Serena Gundy Park Area (c) Site of Proposed Zoological Gardens (d) Donlands Avenue Land Improvement Site (e) Massey Creek Area PRESENT WERE: Pon Valley Chairman H. PROPOSED ZOOLOGICAL GARDENS: A considerable discussion took place with regard to the proposal of establishing a Zoological Gardens in the Don Valley area. Res. 17 Moved By :- W. J. Haggart Seconded By :- K. C. Dalglish THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT : - the establishment of a Metropolitan Zoological Garden and Arboretum in the Don Valley in the :location outlined by the Metropc_J _tan Parks Commissioner be approved in I -3 - 2 - principle; and further, the Board requests that the plans, when available, be submitted for consideration by the Don Valley Advisory Board and the Flood Control and Water Conservation Advisory Board. Carried. BOTANICAL GARDENS: Res. #$ Moved By:- Miss T. Davidson Seconded By:- . C. Daidscn THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT: the Corporation of the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto be requested to consider the advisability or possibility of establishing Botanical Gardens in the Don Valley area. DON VALLEY ENCROACHPENTS: A discussion took place regarding the possibility of further future encroachment of the valley of the Don River by suggested public works and other means. Davidson THE BOARD RECOMMENDS TIAT: -- the Staff investigate the possibili;,y of small check dams on the Don I -5 - 2 - River as a means of collecting debris in an effort to prevent its accumulation in the Toronto Harbour. Carried Unanimously. STUDY OF THE DON RIVER WATERSHED: Res. #13 Moved By:- C. Sauriol Seconded By:- C. Clifford THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT:- the recommendations of the Flood Control and water Conservation Advisory Board in connection with the Study of the Don River Watershed, be adopted by the Authority; Carried Unanimously. DESCRIPTIVE BROCHURE: Res. #14 Moved By :- C. Sauriol Seconded By:- Piss T. Davidson THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT:- an explanatory brochure explaining the proposed dams and reservoirs and their operation be prepared for public distribution. Carried Unanimously. TOUR OF RESERVOIR SITES: Res. #15 Proved By:- C. Sauriol Seconded By:- C. Clifford RESOLVED THAT:- the proposed Tour of Reservoir Sites on the Don Valley be deferred until the Spring of 1963.
