Mr. Colucci presented the staff progress report on the
Pioneer Village to date.

JOINT SUB - COMMITTEE DEDICATION OF VILLAGE

The Board recommends that Prof. T. F. Mcllwraith
and N. A. Boylen be the Historical Sites advisory
Board representatives on the joint liaison sub-
committee appointed to make suitable arrangements
for the dedication of the Pioneer Village and the
preparation of the Pioneer Village Brochure.

PIONEER VILL.GE BROCHURE
The staff presented certain alternative proposals for the
preparation of the Pioneer Village brochure and-asked for an expression
of opinion of the Board.

OFFICIAL OPENING BLACK CREEK AND DEDICATION OF PIONEER VILLAGE.

The Board recommends that the events proposed
.for May 2$ take the form of an official opening
of the Black Creek Conservation Area and a
dedication ceremony for the Pioneer Village.

DICKSON HILL SCHOOL
Mr. Simpson reported that tentative proposals and prices
had been received for the dismantling, moving and re- erecting of
the Dickson Hill School at the Pioneer Village.

The Board recommends that the staff be authorized
and directed to obtain a firm price for the dis-
mantling, moving and re- erection of the Dickson
Hill School.

PRINTING SUB - COMMITTEE REPORT
The report of a meeting of the Printing Sub - Committee was
presented.

ONTARIO HISTORICAL SOCIETY - MUSEUM SECTION
A communication was presented from the museum section of
the Ontario Historical Society containing certain recoimendations.

of the Museums Section of the Ontario
Historical Society be advised that the
Authority would be agreeable to the use of a
card authorizing complimentary admission

a similar concession.

1. That for the present year both existing entrances and parking lots
at the Black Creek Conservation Area be maintained and further that
staff provision be made for the sale of tickets at both entrances.
2. That Prof. T. F. Mcllwraith and N. A. Boylen be the Historical Sites
Advisory Board representatives on the joint liaison sub - committee
appointed to make suitable arrangements for the dedication of the
Pioneer Village and the preparation of the Pioneer Village brochure.
3. That if suitable terms can be arranged that the Pioneer Village
brochure be combined with that of Fort York and Casa Loma.
4. That the events proposed for May 28 take the form of an official
opening of the Black Creek Conservation Area and a dedication ceremony
for the Pioneer Village.
5. That the staff be authorized and directed to obtain a firm price for

7. That the Executive of the Museums Section of the Ontario Historical
Society be advised that the Authority would be agreeable to the use
of a card authorizing complimentary admission to the Pioneer Village
for holders of the Museums Section Card of the Ontario Historical
Society providing other member museums make a similar concession.

REPORT OF A MEETING AND RECOMMENDATIONS
OF THE PRINTING SUB - COMMITTEE OF THE
HISTORICAL SITES ADVISORY BOARD
The Printing Sub - Committee met at the King Edward Hotel,
Toronto, on Monday March 14, 1960 commencing at 12. 15 p.m.
Present were:

The chairman outlined the purpose of the formation of the
committee.
The desirability of establishing a printing shop as a feature
of the Pioneer Village was considered.
The practical aspects of such an undertaking were discussed
in some detail.
It was agreed: -
1.. That a meeting of the Committee be held at the Pioneer Village on
Monday March 21 commencing at 3 p.m.
2.. That Mr.. Redditt prepare a roundup story for the Canadian Weekly
Newspaper Association Bulletin outlining the proposed project and
making known to that body the needs of the Committee.
3. That all members of the committee explore their particular fields
for ideas, assistance and materials.
4. That support for the project be solicited from organizations and
persons concerned. with the various aspects of printing in the
Region.
5. That Messrs. Leavens & Hawes study materials and equipment and prepare
a list of essential equipment and material necessary for the operation
of such a shop.
6. That the types of publications which could be produced be studied
by Messrs. Redditt and Jeanneret and report to next meeting and
further such report contain recommendations as to Editorial Policy.
It was further agreed and the committee recommends -
(a) That a printing shop be established as part of the
Pioneer Village.
(b) That the staff be directed to endeavour to acquire.
a suitable building.
(c) The Committee be authorized to acquire suitable
equipment and material.
(d) That the press offered by E. W. Brown of Woodbridge
be accepted.

Reports of two meetings held by the Printing Sub -
Committee were presented.

PIONEER FESTIVAL 1960:
The Staff presented a report with recommendations
for the 1960 Pioneer Festival.

for 1960 be received and the Board recommends
that the recommendations contained therein as
amended and set forth herein, be adopted.

c) That the scope of activities be
enlarged and include the following

The Story of Wheat - Seeding display,
Harvesting, Threshing, Grinding, Horse

weaving.
Cider Pressing.

REPORT #2.
(being recommendations to the Executive Committee)
1. That the school be located slightly to the west of the
Woodbridge house on the north side of the village road
as staked by the Technical Advisory Sub - Committee.
2. That Prof. Carless be appointed to the Technical Advisory
Sub - Committee to replace Prof. Zaslow during his absence
in Europe.
3. That the publication to be printed in the Village Print
Shop be named the Pioneer Press and that the format be
that of an early Ontario newspaper.
4. Pioneer Village Festival:
a) That the Pioneer Festival be held September 24th/60
b) That the Pioneer Festival be sited at the Pioneer
Village
c) That the scope of activities be enlarged and include
the following: -

REPORT OF A MEETING AND RECOMVJMENDATIONS
OF THE WILDLIFE SUB -COM ITTEE OF THE
CONSERVATION AREAS ADVISORY BOARD
The Wildlife Sub - Committee of the Conservation areas Advisory
Board met at the Cold Creek Conservation Area on Saturday June 18th
commencing at 2 p.m.
Present were:

A tour of inspection was made of the Cold Creek Conservation
Area and proposed plan of development was discussed in some detail,
It was agreed -
(1) That the Sub - Committee hold a meeting in August to
review plans.
(2) That various interested persons and groups be invited
to attend the August meeting and take part in the dis-
cussions of the plan of development.
The Sub - Committee recommends - That the staff prepare
a detailed plan of development including an evaluation of the many
uses which could be made of the area by public groups together with
a schedule of development and a method of operation.
On motion the meeting adjourned at 5 p.m.

The Printing Sub - Committee met at Brown's Print Shop,
Woodbric e, on Friday May Oth 19b0, commencing at 12.30 p.m.
Present were:

A. Colucci
Printing material and equipment offered by Mr. E. Brown
of Woodbridge was inspected and suitable items selected for removal
to the Pioneer Village.
A number of other matters were discussed.
It was agreed :-
1. That the staff be requested to move the equipment and materials
selected from the collection of E. Brown to the Pioneer Village
on May 10th.
2. That efforts be made to commemorate the dedication of the Pioneer
Village on June 2nd as Pioneer Day and that a suitable Proclamation
be printed and issued.
3. That the publication to be printed in the Village Print Shop be
named "The Pioneer Press" and that the format be that of an early
Ontario Newspaper.
4. That an appeal be made for copies of early Canadian books and
publications.

were discussed in detail.
It was agreed -

committee and that Mr. J. Redditt be chairman.
2. That the staff be asked to make line drawings for the "Pioneer Press ".
3. That the name plate tave the form of the pictorial type.
4. That the publication have a motto.
5. That the deadline for the copy be August 1st and that the Pioneer
Press be published on August 27th.

The proposed location of the Church was discussed in
detail. Mrs. Neil reported having seen a suitable driving
shed north of Markham.
Mr. Colucci reported that negotiations were under -way in
an attempt to obtain suitable box pews.
It was agreed that :-
1) Negotiations continue for the Fisherville
Church.
2) That every effort be made to acquire suit-
able pews.
3) An attempt be made to locate a suitable
church driving shed.
4) That enquiries be made to the Department
of Education for suitable school desks
and seats.
5)
That an effort be made to provide examples
of early school pamphlets for distributing
to visiting children.
It was agreed and the Sub - Committee recommends :-
1) That an old time play be included in the
programme of the Pioneer Festival.
2) That Prof. Carless be appointed to replace
Prof. Zaslow during his absence in Europe.

A Staff Report regarding the proposed sale of items in the Laskay
Store and a Souvenir Stand was presented and considered at length.

(b) that the Staff be authorized to
establish a Souvenir Stand in a
suitable location which --ill be

The Staff presented a report requesting direction in the use of. Pioneer
Village items or collections when such are used for commercial.,
publicity, or promotional purposes.

given to certain amendments in the admission fees commencing in 1961.

(being recommendations to the Executive Committee)
1. That the recommendations contained in the Staff Report on the
proposed sale of items at the Pioneer Village set forth herein
be adopted:
(a) that the Staff be authorized to stock the Laskay Store with
suitable items for sale to the general public
(b) that the Staff be authorized to establish a Souvenir Stand
in a suitable location which •will: be stocked with suitable
items for sale to the public.
2. That the recommendations contained in the gtaff Report on the
use of Pioneer Village items or collections for commercial,
publicity, and promotional purposes as amended and set forth
herein be adopted:
(a) a suitable agreement for the use of Pioneer Village materials
and photographs be prepared
(b) the use of Pioneer Museum material and photographs be at
the discretion of the Director
(c) that reasonable fees not to exceed the following be charged
at the discretion of the Director:

(a) Completed restoration of settler's second house and
furnished.

(d) Dickson Hill school restoration 90% completed; furnishing

Area and dedication of Pioneer Village.
